While a lot of people celebrated the jubilee last week, we also celebrated a milestone here at That 60s HQ. Last week, we officially hit 100 weeks of 'Isolated Drums' newsletters, which means there are 100 songs with full drums stems available for free on the website! In this episode, I'm talking about what my Isolated Drums newsletters are all about and how they came to be. I also talk about how I transcribe the drum parts, and what microphones and techniques I use to record the track with some of that 60s flavour! Whether you've been using my drum stems for months or this is the first you've heard about them, this episode will give you the backstory and details on how and why I do this!

Andy has created a character called Norman Havelock, who was a forgotten 60s songwriter (not really, Andy made him up!) and Andy has written and recorded a concept album based on what Norman might have written if he were around today. He's used some of the UK's best sessions musicians and recorded all the basic tracks in an 8hr session, no rehearsal, just like it should be. It's orchestral 60s pop, strings, brass, Burt Bacharach/John Barry style songwriting - so not our usual focus!

John Kurlander has had one of the most eclectic careers I have ever come across. Starting out at Abbey Road at just 16 years old, Kurlander assisted on The Beatles' Abbey Road LP and subsequently went on to work with John, Paul, George & Ringo on their solo albums, as well as working with the likes of Mickie Most, Badfinger, Mary Hopkins & Fela Kuti.
Not only has Kurlander had an acclaimed career in the popular music world, but he has won three grammys for his mixing on The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and worked on countless West End cast recordings and best selling classical works.

Alan White needs no introduction. In this episode Alan discusses his journey from playing Beatles covers in the North East of England to playing drums with John Lennon and George Harrison on some of pop music's most seminal albums. All that before having a hugely successful career as the longest running member of the band 'Yes'. An amazing conversation to be part of, I hope you enjoy it.

I first stumbled across Clay's YouTube videos last year and have wanted to speak to him ever since. Clay is a font of knowledge on all things Beatles recording and all things recording for that matter. He is passionate about recording and making great music and is extremely generous in his advice!

Colin Elliot is one of the few producers I have worked with who seems to retain, for want of a better word (or words), a real natural, organic, vintage, human feel to the way he works. Here Colin opens up about his getting started in recording, his philosophy on production and why gear doesn't matter.
Admittedly, I've said this about all my guests, but Colin really is lovely human being, and I hope you enjoy this conversation!
